The Uvam is a wine cellar in Marsala, that was born in the far 1930 from the efforts of a group of pioneers and is the first example of Wine Cooperative in Sicily. The acronym Uvam means Winemakers Union of the area of Marsala. The ancient tradition of the wine cellar, its deep connection with the territory and the people who guard it and are expert of it are basedon the strain and sweat of the farmers who founded it. Abandoned the ancient domicile, the Uvam settled in the production area among the vineyards, just on the street that joins Marsala and Salemi, and it has been equipped with the most modern gears in order to obtain the best wine products.
The great quality of the wines produced by the Cantina Sociale Uvam is intimately connected to the intrinsic value of its precious vineyards and to the attentive care to which they are subjected. The company has 2,500 hectares of vineyards in Marsala own, divided among vineyards in white and red grape berry. The vineyards are located in the western Sicily, in the hills between 150 and 500 meters s.l.m., in the countryside of Marsala and Salemi. The vineyards from which come the fine wines dell'Uvam include native and international varieties. Their high quality features as well as that derived from the versatility of clay-limestone soils, the excellent availability that characterizes the specific growing area, as well as by the favorable conditions of temperature, suitable for the perfect ripening of the fruits and the high daily temperature variation -notturna that enhances the taste of the product.
The Syrah is a ruby red wine, with violet shades. With an intense and lasting aroma, important spicy marks and hot, harmonic and equilibrated flavour, it complies well with meat dishes, roasts game in general and aged cheese.
The Grillo is a characteristic straw yellow wine. It presents an intense and persistent aroma, with flower and fruity marks with a well-equilibrated flavour among the dry, the full and the soft. It perfectly complies with fish dishes and light entrées.
The Nero d’Avola is a ruby red wine. It presents an excellent aromatic legacy composed of intense fruity flower and spicy sensations with an equilibrated and tasty flavour thanks to a full-bodied standard of extracts and to the good fixed acidity. It complies with meat based dishes, roasts and game in general.
